Hydraulic recoilers

The last machine in the line, and the one the customer sees. Tight, square, uniform coils — every time.

Hydraulic recoiler winding a finished slit coil on an expanded mandrel
Hydraulic recoiler — high torque drive, hydraulic mandrel expansion.

High torque drive

Wound tight, wound square

The recoiler pulls the slit strips under tension and winds them into a finished coil. Torque has to hold from the first wrap to the last, or the coil comes off loose, telescoped or with the edges stepped — which is what the customer inspects first.

  • Hydraulic expansion — mandrel grips the coil eye and releases it in one motion.
  • High torque drive — holds tension as coil diameter builds up.
  • Smooth & uniform winding — square coils, consistent strip tension.
  • All coil types — MS, CR, HR, GI, PPGL and SS strip.

Working with

Tension and separation

A good coil is a team result. Upstream of the recoiler, a tension stand keeps every strip tight and a separator gives each slit strip its own lane into the recoiler. We build both, along with the decoiler, pinch roll unit, slitter head, scrap winder and electrical control panel.

Downstream, an exit car takes the finished coil off the mandrel and carries it clear for strapping. Every unit is modelled in 3D — see the recoiler model and the full line.

Buying a recoiler on its own?

  • Replacement or upgrade of an existing recoiler
  • Re-winding service for bought-out coils
  • Hydraulic repair and reconditioning of the old unit

Questions

Recoiler, answered

Why does the mandrel expand hydraulically?

Hydraulic expansion grips the coil eye evenly and firmly, so the coil cannot slip while it is being wound, and it releases in one motion when the coil is done. It also tolerates the small eye diameter variations between coils.

How do you stop the coil from telescoping?

Strip tension has to stay constant as the coil diameter grows. That is a matter of torque control on the recoiler and drag on the tension stand — the two are selected together for your strip.

Can a recoiler handle all material types?

Yes — the line handles MS, CR, HR, GI, PPGL and SS coils. The drive, mandrel and tension settings are configured for the material mix you run.

Do you supply the recoiler separately from a full line?

Yes. We build line machines individually, so a single recoiler, decoiler or slitter head can be supplied as a replacement or as the start of a line you build up over time.

How is a recoiler priced?

Price is offered according to the thickness range and specification — coil weight, strip width combination and speed set the drive size. See what drives the cost.
